L.A. life.
L.A. life.

There were a few things I wanted to blog about (like my last capstone paper and the Time 100 list) that I just didn’t have time for. #TeamNoSleep, but that’s what next week is for. Anyways, here’s what I read this week:

1. The importance of coffee for Icelandic culture.

2. It’s comforting to know that even 20-something Jacques Derrida received some harsh criticism.

3. I was too young for Jennicam, but it sounds like a fascinating anthropological study.

4. I love Into the Gloss’s interviews, and one of this week’s was a good one.

5. FOGO is the new FOMO. (Side note: I’m not quite sure if fear-of-going-out really encapsulates what’s going on here, but it’s a start.)

And a bonus: I actually came across this last week and didn’t have space for it in my last Link Party, but look at this pencil shop (!!!!!!!)

Have a great weekend!

So I help run the university's Instagram account (go follow @calpolypomona) and I went hunting for a photo on Wednesday. There's this patio that has a very nice succulent garden growing.

For it being finals week, I’ve had an incredibly productive week — I could get used to that. Here’s what I read this week:

1. A really interesting look at the life of Laura Ingalls Wilder and Pioneer Girl.

2. A good argument for bringing texting back.

3. A story about two data designers who sent each other postcards documenting their daily lives. (You guys, I cannot stress how cool this really is.)

4. What do you think art tastes like? These people apparently know.

5. The Mad Men exhibit is calling my name.

And a bonus: A rare look at Jean-Michel Basquiat’s notebooks.

Have a great weekend!

Good times at LACMA on Monday.

Here’s what I read this week:

1. A really interesting profile on Emerson Spartz, who has made a lot of websites you probably recognize.

2. Kanye West and Paul McCartney collaborated. No big deal.

3. Jay Wilds gives an interview about Serial, and now I’m not sure who to believe.

4. There’s a medical school class about Seinfeld, which seems fascinating.

5. That one really awesome time the New York Times got spoofed.

And a bonus: A show I’m OBSESSED with that I’ll tell you guys about on Wednesday.

Have a great weekend!

A view of school most people don't see.
A view of school most people don’t see.

Here’s what I read this week:

1. New Yorkers asked the New York Public Library some crazy things pre-Google.

2. 550 musicians were asked Lennon or McCartney, and I’m actually surprised by the results.

3. This is what Christmas dinner at the White House looks like.

4. Jeb Bush’s emails were almost as fascinating as the Sony ones.

5. William Faulkner drew some pretty cool things. This is old, but I fell down a Faulkner rabbit hole after finishing The Sound and the Fury.

And a bonus: The Replacements recorded a 26-minute jazz piece, and it’s kind of incredible.

Happy holidays, and have a great weekend!

Here’s what I read this week:

1. The Académie française says to knock it off with the LOLs.

2. One of my favorite tech writers keeps getting Amazon emails that aren’t for him.

3. The best essay I read about the ramifications of the Sony hack.

4. There’s a real life Newman running around in Manhattan stealing people’s mail.

5. The things people Googled the most in 2014.

And a bonus: There’s this website that arranges Wikipedia articles like a galaxy and it’s really rad.

Have a great weekend!
