The Shins, at the Fox Theater Pomona.

I had a pretty good weekend, and I’m looking out at a week of hard work, hangouts and hopefully a superbloom. Not too bad, Zo. Not too bad.

Here’s what I’ve read lately:

1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s workout routine is hardcore.

2. This story about the Bahia emerald and its curse is a wild ride from start to finish.

3. The myth of California style.

4. The way Donald Trump eats and orders his steak is actually really important.

5. Google needs to rethink its whole featured answer snippet idea.

And a bonus: Missing Richard Simmons is an A+ podcast.

See you later.

Fridaze.

Fridaze.

Here’s what I read this week:

1. Ruth Bader Ginsburg gives the best advice.

2. Barack Obama on five days that shaped his presidency.

3. A letter of complaint for Cards Against Humanity.

4. Elena Ferrante and the myth that female artists owe us something more than just their work.

5. An excerpt from a book about haunted places in America, which I’m planning to pick up.

And a bonus: Bruce Springsteen on NPR’s Fresh Air.

Enjoy your weekend.

There are these small trees that line my street, and they have beautiful flowers. If you know what they're called, please let me know!

Here’s what I read this week:

1. I didn’t notice how many X should buy Y articles there are out there, and now I will.

2. I’m not a fan of Taylor Swift, but after reading this essay I understand her cultural pull a little more.

3. The Notorious RBG.

4. I haven’t watched the new Daft Punk documentary because I don’t remember enough French to get by without subtitles, but this list of trivia mined from it is awesome.

5. A linguist explains how we use sarcasm on the Internet.

And two bonuses, because I’m the best: Behind-the-scenes footage of “Inherent Vice,” and a really great song from The Arcs, the side project of The Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend!

I was on my way home Wednesday night, and out in front of the historical society's museum was this beautiful blooming tree. I had to pull over and take a photo.

This week was not a good one for me, creatively or academically. But I’m bouncing back, and will have more posts next week. But here’s what I  was able to read:

1. I like to think that this profile of The New Yorker query proofreader Mary Norris is a projection of my future.

2. Ruth Bader Ginsburg continues to be awesome.

3. Pitchfork‘s review of If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. (I’m partial to “Energy,” “10 Bands” and “6 God.”)

4. The current Starbucks menu ranked. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be funny but I find it hysterical.

5. The discourse of FYI emails.

And a bonus: Practice your hip hop sampling with this awesome keyboard.

Have a great weekend!
